The viticultural region of Borba is a large area running in a NW - SE direction, from the north-east of Estremoz to Vila Viçosa or Alandroal. This region is also renowned for its marble quarries. The predominant soils are derived from crystalline limestone, showing several patches of schist generally of a reddish colour.
In the very heart of the Alto Alentejo, the soil that originated from schist and limestone clay as well as the climate with its continental influence, make for unusually consistent quality, and ideal conditions for exceptional wine-growing. |
